Florida Academy of Osteopathy
The mission of the Florida Academy of Osteopathy is to teach, advocate, advance, explore and research the science and art of osteopathic manipulative medicine. In practical terms, this means that we strive to use FAO to connect patients with physicians, to connect physicians with physicians for employment purposes, and to meet to teach and expand osteopathy.
drug-free, non-invasive manual therapy
Osteopathy is a patient-focused approach to health care that takes into account every aspect of the patient, including his or her physical, personal, and spiritual well-being. Developed more than 140 years ago by Andrew Taylor Still, MD, DO, osteopathic medicine brings a unique philosophy to traditional patient care. Understanding that the body is more than just a sum of its parts, osteopathic physicians (DOs) assist the patient’s innate capacity to heal by addressing the interrelationship of the body’s nerves, muscles, bones and organs. Osteopathic physicians are licensed to prescribe medicine and practice in all medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties.
why be a part of the fao?
This is your state American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO) organization reaching out to you. The Florida Academy of Osteopathy (FAO) would love to have any physician who is passionate about osteopathic manipulative medicine join us.
The Florida Academy of Osteopathy was established in 1958. Each year we bring in one of the top osteopathic manipulation experts for a conference. In the past we’ve had the likes of Larry Jones (developer of counterstrain), Fred Mitchell(muscle energy), Robert Fulford and Richard Vanbuskirk (re-discoverer of the Stills technique) speak at our conferences. We are a nonprofit organization and leader in osteopathic manipulative education for the state of Florida.
FAO helps patients find providers, new graduates find employment, and practices find new residents
FAO offers CME credits toward certification through our conferences and provides the opportunity to join osteopathic study groups for the exchange of ideas and learning new skills to better help our patients
FAO offers membership benefits in the form of conference discounts, early registration and high quality hands-on training with top national osteopathic manipulation experts
FAO members help us continue to work to maintain insurance reimbursement for OMT and promote public awareness of the benefits of osteopathy
